[ She nods, covering her face with her hands and breathing slowly. Eventually she lowers her hands a little, peering over the top of them. ]

Then it probably still would have found you. Trust me, those things can sneak up on you like nobody's business.

[phaseshifter]

This - this one wasn't sneaky, it was. It.

[ She kind of looks like she's going to barf. ]

It was a robot? Or - or partly. Mostly just static. And - and. It was kind of - warped and stretched, but it - it was made of Dumpy. Bits of him.

[ It takes her a minute to respond, because she feels a little like she's been punched in the gut. She feels sick. ]

That's what happened to Ed and Al. A monster that looked like something familiar, that threw them off balance.

It's not your fault, Angel. It's them. They did this on purpose.

[phaseshifter]

What if the monsters don't - if they don't just look familiar.

We know they took Dumpy and - and took him apart, and we know they take the bodies of the fallen. Both us and the people from before. And now there were bits of Dumpy in the monster, so - so what if they're recycling us? The monsters could be made of people.

[ ... ]

Okay, say they are. What does that change? We can't do anything about it.

[phaseshifter]

It doesn't change anything, not - not exactly. But it raises more questions, it - why revive any of us? And what parts are they taking? Is that why I'm not-- back home I could do things, and here I can't, and if they took those things from me to put them in a monster then it could be really dangerous.

[ Babbling? Yes. But the idea of a Siren monster isn't exactly pleasant. ]

I don't know, Angel. We still don't know how they got us here or how they're reviving us. "Why" is kind of a long way off.

[phaseshifter]

If they just - if they want parts, we could just teach them to digistruct things. They don't have to do this. We can work it out.

If it was that easy don't you think they would talk to us?

[phaseshifter]

Not if they aren't allowed to. I was talking with Beckett - if the admin is an AI, and I think she is, then one of her prime directives could be that she isn't allowed to make contact with us. Not - not beyond the contact that's necessary, anyway.

That just takes me back to the amoral alien scientists theory.

[phaseshifter]

Why alien? Unless you're not from Earth and I'm just - making assumptions.

Because I'm slightly more willing to believe in amoral aliens than an entire organization of amoral humans. I like pretending things like the holocaust never happen.

[phaseshifter]

The what? Um - some aliens are human! I mean, I suppose I'm technically one from your perspective?

Though that. Doesn't really refute the whole. Awful amoral organisation of humans thing. Because I mean, Hyperion do some pre-- I don't know where I'm going with this, sorry, I'm just rambling. Sorry.

It's okay. [ She should really be trying to distract Angel, but that's not working so great. ] In my world we don't really know a lot about aliens yet. Just that some of them tend to invade.

Ooooh. I can, um, see how that would. Maybe give you a bad impression. Just - just a little.

For what it's worth, at least one of them is a superhero.

A superhero? Like in comic books? That's. Actually kind of cute.

[ Steph just stares for a minute. ]

I dunno, I don't really see the appeal. Nightwing's way hotter.

What-- no, I didn't mean - I meant. Sweet. The whole. Superhero alien thing. Oh geez.

[ She's still a little confused, mostly thrown off by the comic books reference. ]

Oh gosh, have I offended you? Sorry. Um. I'm sure , uh, Nightwing is a... total hottie.
