I have reason to believe he's abusive. I'll make sure we use all the security measures available, but I don't know that even being outside will help. They could have any level of advanced technology we don't know about. That cat started out fat, so I'm not really surprised.

Because you grow up thinking someone loves you, that they're always going to protect you, no matter what. You love them. It's hard to change that, even when the evidence says that you should.

It could also be that this house was here before they put metal under the floors.
I don't think the rubble outside has metal beneath them, but I haven't tried digging to see. Going to wait until I have a chance to slip away alone for a bit. The last time I went messed with the debris for a length of time, a monster crawled out from under it. I don't want to put the others in danger.

But if you take someone with you they might see the monster before you do. You could get away without getting hurt.

Or I could wind up getting them eaten.
