Why is Rhys so important?

He's my closest friend and I love him. Why else would he be important?

Unless you want to know why I'm closer to him than anyone else, I suppose? We never met before coming here, but we still come from the same world. I can talk about my dad and he understands in a way other people can't, because he has the right frame of reference. We have similar interests. And experiences, if you squint.

Plus he's unique in that he's the only Hyperion employee I've ever met who isn't a complete jackhole. Like just 25% or so. >u>

What was your dad like when you were growing up?

[phaseshifter]

Protective.

[ But leaving it at that isn't fair, is it? ]

After my mom died, anyway.
Before that I don't remember very clearly. I thought the world of him, though.
He broke a little after what happened to mom, but we still got along. It seems silly now, but I didn't mind him being overprotective then. Not after I got used to it.

What happened to your mom?

It takes a lot longer than usual for the reply to come through. ]

I couldn't control my Siren powers as a child. I killed her.

[ The response is immediate, and Steph feels a little vindicated - if she had wanted to hurt Angel, this probably would have done it. Of course, she immediately goes back to feeling sorry for herself as well as bad for her friend. ]

Do you remember her at all?

[phaseshifter]

A little. She used to braid my hair and let me wear her hat. I'm pretty sure I have her nose.

By the way, never mention her to Jack. He gets very upset for reasons that should be obvious.

I don't really mention anything to Jack. Contrary to popular belief I don't actually enjoy getting into fights with guys who might kill me.

Just the ones that wouldn't? Like Rhys? :P

I really didn't mean to flip him. I freaked out.

And he freaked too. He's not used to anything like this!
I know I've talked about how violent Pandora is, but Rhys worked on Helios. He's a corporate fartlord, not a bad*ss! Ugh I bet he got into fingergun fights with the accounts department and everything he's so embarrassing

 

 

Um, anyway. He's stressed, not used to being attacked even accidentally, and he's been having problems with his cybernetic arm since he got here. It was an accident waiting to happen. And that's what it was! An accident.

Then what would you have done? If it was me and the person most important to you who fought?

Tie you up, probably. Just to make sure you'd stop hitting each other.

Firstly, I don't have rope. Secondly, we were tied up in the basement for a while and it was the worst. Thirdly, I'd have had to overpower you both and I am a wimp.

Well ok if I was actually you for one thing I would know how much rope my peers have on hand but I think I would still go after you if you were actively bleeding.

Rhys was bleeding too. From the arm he hurt in the basement.
I know how to fix cybernetics a little. Faces, not so much.

Pro tip: pressure stops bleeding
