But I'm not going to bite my tongue and capitulate to other people out of love any more when there's a difference of opinion. Not when it's important to me.
I know we have very different ideas of what justice is and I just hope that doesn't mean that we can't be friends any more.

This is my fault really, you kind of tripped over a few of my more sensitive issues that Rhys knows about and you don't. That's why things got a little heated.

You're intelligent. Fiercely principled, obviously. Loyalty is important, but not as important as 'doing the right thing.' You have strong convictions and don't change your opinions easily, though you're smart enough to think things through before taking a stand. It does mean that you're used to being right, though, which can give you the air that you think you know what's best for people even when they themselves disagree.
You like facts and the solidity they provide. Information will never betray you. You essentially personify the concept of 'knowledge is power,' to a degree that could potentially alienate people. That's exploitable, if someone wanted to discredit you. It wouldn't be the most effective way of getting at you, though. You're brave, still confident even though this place has shaken you. Directly attacking you, physically or mentally, wouldn't be as easy or effective as going after the people you love.

And that's what I did back home. I was usually pretty good at it. Is it accurate? I tried not to draw on your past as best I could.

I don't think that you *care* more about facts at all. But they're more reliable and solid. Facts are *facts,* they can't let you down or take advantage of you or do any of the other awful things that people can. They're something you can hoard, categorise, use. People, not so much.

And no. Not any more. It was part of what I used to do, though, yes.

Facts can betray you. They can kill your friends, destroy your family, leave you cold and scared and alone. A lot like people that way.

I don't use people, though.

Facts don't do that. The people wielding them do.
And I didn't think you'd be the type to use anyone. Then again, I'm sure people think that about me too.

He's my closest friend and I love him. Why else would he be important?

Unless you want to know why I'm closer to him than anyone else, I suppose? We never met before coming here, but we still come from the same world. I can talk about my dad and he understands in a way other people can't, because he has the right frame of reference. We have similar interests. And experiences, if you squint.

Plus he's unique in that he's the only Hyperion employee I've ever met who isn't a complete jackhole. Like just 25% or so. >u>

What was your dad like when you were growing up?

After my mom died, anyway.
Before that I don't remember very clearly. I thought the world of him, though.
He broke a little after what happened to mom, but we still got along. It seems silly now, but I didn't mind him being overprotective then. Not after I got used to it.

I don't really mention anything to Jack. Contrary to popular belief I don't actually enjoy getting into fights with guys who might kill me.
